When couples enable each other's vocal health risks

My partner and I both sing in our church choir and we both developed vocal nodules from overuse, but they want to keep performing through the injury while our voice teacher recommended complete vocal rest. We're supporting each other's music dreams but I think we're enabling each other's poor vocal health decisions and I don't know how to be the responsible one without seeming like I'm giving up on our shared passion.

The deeper question

Shared creative passions can lead couples to collectively ignore medical advice when individual discipline might prevent long-term damage.
